Allah's Mercy - Islamic Memo

Allah’s Mercy

A divine attribute that is boundless, all-encompassing, and a source of hope for all of creation. The Quran and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) repeatedly emphasize this profound quality.

The very first words of the Quran, “In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate,” underscore its paramount importance. Allah’s mercy, known as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Ar-Raheem (The Especially Merciful), is a mercy that extends to all of creation.

A central theme in Islam is to never despair of Allah’s mercy, no matter the extent of one’s sins. As stated in the Quran, “Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'” (Quran 39:53). This verse serves as a powerful reassurance that the door of repentance and forgiveness is always open.
